From Stage to the Vocal Studio:
Meet Marsha Matthai
Performer | Educator | Vocal Coach
With over 20 years of experience as a professional vocalist, I’ve built a career that spans studio sessions, live performance, and vocal education. I’ve worked with some of the industry’s most respected hitmakers—including John Rich, Keith Thomas, David Malloy, Bryan Clark, and Keith Stegall—and shared the stage with artists like Amy Grant, Andrea Bocelli, Buck Johnson, Bradley Gaskin, and The It City.
As an active performer with multiple event bands, I stay connected to the ever-evolving demands of both live music and studio work. My experience as both a session singer and live performer gives me a unique perspective—I understand the precision required in the studio and the authenticity and energy needed on stage. My goal is to help you develop that same versatility, confidence, and technical mastery in your own voice.
Education & Training
I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Commercial Music from Belmont University, with a double emphasis in Vocal Performance and Composition/Arranging. In May 2025, I’ll complete a Master’s Degree in Commercial Vocal Pedagogy from Shenandoah University. While attending Shenandoah, I had the opportunity to train at the CCM Vocal Pedagogy Institute—an internationally recognized workshop centered on the biomechanics of teaching contemporary voice, with a deep focus on the intersection of identity, technique, and artistry. This training deepened my approach to helping singers explore their full vocal range and express themselves freely and authentically.
In addition to coaching privately, I’ve served as an adjunct professor of commercial voice at both Lipscomb University and Belmont University since 2021, teaching private voice lessons as well as courses in country vocal styles. These experiences have allowed me to work with a wide range of vocalists—from developing singers to pre-professionals refining their craft in real time.
I’m also a Neuro-Vocal Certified Vocal Coach, using brain-based learning strategies to help singers develop stronger technique, coordination, and lasting vocal freedom. My approach prioritizes efficiency, longevity, and vocal health, so your voice can handle the demands of your career—powerfully, consistently, and authentically.
Specializing in pop, rock, country, R&B, and jazz, I’ll help you master the stylistic elements that define each genre. Whether it’s the twang and storytelling of country, the phrasing and improv of jazz, the emotional agility of R&B, or the grit and edge of rock, we’ll develop the tools you need to be expressive, adaptable, and fully yourself in every style.
I’m committed to staying at the cutting edge of vocal pedagogy and commercial vocal styles. That means I’m always refining my methods—so I can offer you the most effective, science-backed, and industry-relevant training available. My goal is to help you become versatile and confident across genres, while also shaping and refining your own unique sound. Together, we’ll blend technical mastery with creative expression, so you can train smarter, perform stronger, and build a career doing what you love.
